A Bit about the artist Kate Moby
Welcome to my shop, featuring hand-drawn, nature focused inky illustrations adorning homeware, stationery and gifts. Bamboo grows in the studio garden, which I cut, dry and carve into dip pens. Add lots of different coloured inks and you get my two ranges: Inky Animals and Inky Botanicals. Everything is proudly made in the UK to the highest eco standards and sent from my Herefordshire studio.
My illustrations are hopefully aesthetically enjoyable in their own right, but are created with the underlying reason to make a sense of wonder at the natural world more and more accessible and part of people’s treasured homes. To fall in love with all its wonderful diversity and beauty, and so encourage people to care for it – it’s the best way we can save it, which is increasingly becoming an urgent need. From a baby name print featuring a whole alphabet of diverse animal illustrations to inspire from a young age, to a Grow Your Own Organic Tomato sauce kit to make an introduction to gardening in a tiny space as easy and exciting as possible, all my products are created with the hope of stirring that excitement and joy of nature.
Secondly, everything is made thoughtfully and ethically, and I constantly scrutinise my processes and printers to make sure that they’re not only not doing harm, but actively doing good. So for example, any fabric offcuts produced in my homeware production are sent to schools as free crafting materials, any plastic packaging that comes into the studio is reused again to stop it being single use (reusing is more effective than recycling so even though it doesn’t “look” as good it’s important that it’s repurposed) Inks are vegetable based, I use greeting card printers that are registered in a carbon capture program supported by the Woodland Trust. All gardening products are peat free (it’s an natural resource under threat but an enormously important habitat and stores huge amounts of greenhouse gases.) All paper stock is FSC certified and packaging is made from recycled card from post consumer waste where possible. The list goes on and I’m always trying to do more. I champion eco-friendly British manufacturing in a sustainable and scalable way, as all pieces are proudly made in the UK to cut out air miles, ensure fair working conditions and a living wage for those manufacturing my products.
My gifts and homeware have been featured in the Guardian, Country Living Magazine, Ideal Home, Good Homes Magazine.
